HOW TO LEARN THE ANATOMY OF LAVENDER

Caylx - commonly called The Bud. This is the part of the plant that is harvested for culinary uses.
Corolla - flower petals, is produced from the Caylx. Very little to no flavor for culinary uses.
Peduncle - the stem.
Whorl - cluster of Caylx (buds).
Spike - The section of where the  Caylx and Corolla begin to grow on the stem.
Bract - the leaf like material that is removed during our cleaning process.

GROWING LAVENDER

We grow lavender in the most unique way, above ground in barrels. We didn't like the idea of having to get down on our knees for every plant so Bryan had a thought...raise the plants. Our barrels are 55 gallon food grade drums cut in half. We filled those barrels with some great dirt and put our baby lavender plants in there. Now we can't get those plants to slow down.
Stop by and see it in person!

HOW WE CLEAN

Once we harvest, the lavender is set to dry out. We remove the Calyx (buds) from the Spike (stems) and then use a shaker & vacuum cleaner process to remove dust, leaves and small stems (chaff).
